Sedation

IV Sedation dentistry is also referred to as sleep dentistry, and in Queensland is only carried out by an accredited sedation dentists. The current requirement by the Dental Board of Queensland for administration of IV sedation is a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Sedation) from the University of Sydney or equivalents.
If you have a dental phobia, or anxiety you would benefit from sedation dentistry either with gas sedation or IV sedation. Recent research has shown that the main reason adults postpone much needed dental treatment is fear! That’s right, it’s not time, not money, but fear. Yet dental disease such as decay and periodontal disease do not take exceptions.
Dr Doan is an accredited sedationist and a dental specialist with 20+ years of professional experience. He makes sure that you have a pleasant experience!

How Sedation Works
Armed with safe and proven techniques, dental patients will receive sedative medications which work rapidly to create a relaxed state that is maintained and monitored throughout treatment. Beyond creating an optimal environment for the patient, IV Sedation dentistry also allows us to complete multiple procedures in one appointment.
An IV sedation is begun by the sedationist administering all medications for relaxation to enter your body. The patient will not remember or be aware of any procedures or especially “getting numb.” Complex dental treatments that often require multiple appointments can often be done in as little as one or two! All while you relax. You breathe on your own. This is not like the hospital anesthesia where a machine breathes for you.
